Confessions of an Instagram Blogger

Lets be real —

We are in the day and age where social media takes up our lives and is the center of everything we do. As a social media influencer and blogger there is so much that goes into letting your presence be known on social media such as content creation, scheduling posts, figuring out how to beat the Instagram algorithm, and much more. It is important to take the time to consider your favorite influencer as real life people. I started this blogging journey back up not too long ago and I definitely feel like sometimes I strive for perfection too much and it’s just not realistic. I find myself having to remind myself of these things and I feel like other bloggers or social media influencers can relate as well.

Take some time for yourself

You have control over how much social media controls your life. It is okay to take some time for yourself and step away from social media to focus on yourself and things in your personal life. There are times I go MIA on social media, it may be either because I am super busy with work or just need some time away. I see social media influencers getting on stories or posts and apologizing for taking time for yourself, and I truly do not feel like that is something that needs to be said or apologized for because we are human. There is so much going on in our daily lives that it is okay to take time away and take a break. Do not apologize for it.

Your follower count isn’t everything

As a social media influencer, having a social media following is a big deal. Your followers are your support system and the people truly interested in what your content. That being said, followers will fluctuate almost everyday and most likely will not always stay at a consistent number. As long you are producing content that you love and are proud of, then your followers will appreciate that and continue to follow you, and your following will grow. Your follower count isn’t everything and the amount of followers you have does not determine your importance in life or in the social media world. They will come!

Don’t compare

In the social media world, it is so easy to get caught up in the thought and want of perfectionism. Somebody will always have something you want or envy, whether it is the perfect body, clothes, job, lifestyle, etc –  What we all need to realize is that influencers  choose to post what we want. Your favorite influencer or bloggers feed may look perfect but that is because it is their job. As a social media influencer, your presence on social media is key, so it is important to have a great feed and produce great content. It is so easy to pick and choose and control what we want to post and share and it may not always be the most glamorous but as long as you’re being true to yourself.

Remember why you started

I chose to start this blogging journey because it is something I love and am passionate about. I love to shop and feel like I do a great job of it { hehe 😉 } so I figured why not share with y’all the things I purchase and products I love. Blogging about my clothes, my life, and beauty finds is something that I love and am passionate about. When you put yourself out on social media and a platform as big as Instagram – especially with a public profile, you are bound to have people come at you with hate or to criticize what you do. Don’t let that affect you though – this is your journey and your platform so use it the way you like and post what you want. Most importantly make your dreams come true and enjoy what you do!

Not everybody is a full time blogger

I know there are a good amount of times that I slack on my content or am not as engaging on social media but it’s because I do blogging on the side of my full time job. As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, I have an untraditional work schedule. There are so many days I have plans to get online and write a blog post or post on stories but the truth is that sometimes I am just too tired. That doesn’t mean I don’t still love being a blogger and engaging with my followers and other bloggers on social media – but at this moment of my life, I don’t have the luxury to make it a full time job and career path. Blogging and being an influencer is a full time job on its own and I think that is sometimes hard to understand to those people who see us on just on social media and not in real life. I may struggle sometimes to post daily or come up with creative content but I truly want to put content out there that I genuinely feel like correlates with my blog and expresses the person I am. I don’t just want to put  content up daily and not make it something I’m proud of or something that doesn’t measure up to my other posts.

Let’s face it, the social media world can be a tough one but also can be so rewarding! I have met so many amazing people and friends from social media. I think its so amazing that you can feel like you know someone based off their profile and content. It is however, important to consider all of these things whether you’re a fellow blogger or you follow social media influencers/bloggers. Things may get hard at times and life may get in the way but always remember to be true to yourself and be considerate of the people you choose to follow on social media.

Mask Monday – Kocostar Foot Moisture Mask

Hey friends!

This post is a few days late – this week was crazy busy for me because Christmas coming up as well as planning for a trip out of town.

My mask Monday from this week was a little different from those of the previous weeks. I have been focusing mostly on facial masks but this week I wanted to switch it up and focus on different area of the body.

I went shopping at Riley Rose recently and found a foot mask from Kocostar. I love Riley Rose because I feel like I always find new products and brands. Kocostar is short for Korea Cosmetic Star – They are a mask series brand dedicated to face masks, hair mask, feet masks, and nail masks. Their slogan is “Be Good To Yourself, Save Your Time and Dime with Kocostar.

Our feet are so important and I feel like I really  don’t do much too much to relieve them or pamper them the way I should, only when I get pedicures (which I try to do at least once a month). I wear so many heels and booties that I really don’t give my feet too much of a break. I thought trying this mask out would be great because I had my works holiday party this week and knew I would be wearing heels for a long period of time and also wanted my feet to look nice.

This mask had a little more steps then most,  but once you have washed your feet, you will pull the mask out of the packaging and take out the sheet. The mask comes connected as one full sheet at first (see below)

The next step was to cut along the dotted line with scissors to separate the mask into two booties

img_7602Lastly, you put the mask on your feet in the bootie and tighten the strap around your ankle with the sticker and keep the mask on for 20 minutes.

It felt a little weird putting my foot into the bootie because I knew their was product in it but didn’t know how much and it felt a little cold and uncomfortable at first, but it just took a little while to get used to. It was nice though because I was able to do whatever I needed around the house and still get stuff done. I felt like every time I took a step I sounded like a duck walking from the squeekiness.

The 20 minutes went by so fast and once I took the mask off, my feet felt so soft and relaxed! There was a little bit of product still on my feet after I removed the bootie so I just went ahead and massaged what was left into my feet.

On a scale from 1-10, I give this mask a 10. I really enjoyed this mask and felt like it moisturized and soothes my feet, just as it said it would. I purchsed this mask from Riley Rose for $6 and really felt like I got the soothing feel of getting a pedicure at the salon, just without the polish change. I recommend using this mask when you have important events coming up and maybe can’t make time to go and get a pedicure. It is so important to take care of our feet just because they do so much for us and we are constantly on them and to get the same soothing and calming effect for only $6 is amazing. I was truly impressed with this Korean brand and I can’t wait to try more of their masks and share them with y’all! You can find Kocostar products at retailers such as Sephora, Ulta, Riley Rose, and Anthropology or at their online store here.

As always, thank you for tuning into (a very belated) mask Monday. I hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and cherished the time spent with family.

Mask Monday: Sephora Collection – Rose Face Mask

Happy Mask Monday friends!

Today’s face mask was dedicated to hydrating your skin. I tried out the Sephora Collection – Rose Face Mask. This mask is said to moisturize and brighten the face using natural Rose extracts. The mask is to be worn for 15 minutes and is said to plump the skin and leave your face with an immediate radiance boost.(#YouGlowGirl)

I have only purchased two items from the Sephora Collection, one was a mascara and the other a lipstick. Although I was not a big fan of the lipstick (it dried up my lips), I did like the mascara. I feel that because Sephora sells so many makeup and skin care brands, that the Sephora Collection always goes unnoticed or unappreciated. I do feel, however that the masks are a good place to start when shopping with that collection. Right now Sephora has 8 different sheet masks in different scents and skin care goals.

When I took the mask out of the packaging, it had an immediate rose scent to it – which smelt so good! This sheet mask was a little different because once you unfolded the mask, you then had to pill off the pink film and then fit the mask to your face. The sheet mask really hugged my face and felt so comfortable,  I honestly forgot the sheet was even on my face! It felt like it had melted onto my face and quickly absorbed into my pores. I liked that the mask’s rose smell wasn’t too overbearing and enjoyed the cool/calming sensation while it was on my face! Another thing I liked is that once you took off the mask you didn’t have to wash the remaining product off with water, just had to massage it into your face. Because my skin felt so hydrated, I didn’t even feel the need to put moisturizer on right after!

On a scale of 1-10, I give this mask a 7 out of 10. Although my face does not need much hydration because I am naturally oily, I felt like it was the perfect amount of hydration. Towards the end of the 15 minutes, I was not a huge fan of the Rose smell, just because it gave me a little bit of a headache after. Once I removed the mask looked in the mirror, however, I noticed my skin was glowing! The post effects of the mask were amazing, they left my skin feeling super hydrated and soft. My boyfriend got me this mask for free with his cologne purchase back in the summer time, but the rose mask can be found at Sephora and normally sells for $6, very affordable! Right now, Sephora is selling a limited edition Super Mask set of 4 sheet masks for $18 and is linked here, if you are interested in trying out The Sephora Collection mask set, it is online only! These masks make great gifts and stocking stuffers, I recommend you check them out at your local Sephora store.

Brunch with Lori – Nola Brunch & Beignets

Happy Sunday ladies & gents!

I am a huge lover of brunch and discovering new restaurants and eateries in my city and new cities I travel to. I wanted to share my love of food and brunch by introducing a new blog post to my blog – Brunch with Lori. In these posts I will be sharing a new & loved brunch places that I visit during my free time.

Today I visited the cutest little brunch spot off of N St. Mary’s Street and King’s Court Street in San Antonio called Nola Brunch & Beignets. I haven’t been to New Orleans yet, but I have heard that this place’s great food is inspired by New Orleans. They brunch Tuesday-Sunday from 8 am to 2 pm.

Nola’s ambiance is very friendly and inviting with it being located in a cozy remodeled house. Since it is located in a busy strip of San Antonio, it is difficult to find parking since it is in the middle of a neighborhood, however you should be able to find parking alongside the sidewalks in front of the houses/buildings. Right when you walk in, you are greeted by the hostess who will check you on their reservation list and register you by phone number. You can either sit out in front of the restaurant and socialize with your friends/family or enjoy the different bars along the St. Mary’s Strip while you wait.

The menu is filled with traditional brunch/breakfast dishes but with their own New Orleans twist. Some items that caught my eye were the Bread Pudding French Toast, the Banana Foster Buttermilk Pancakes, the Creole Fried Steak, and the Chicken & Beignets. I decided to order the Chicken & Beignets because I like a balance between sweet and savory and I must say I was not disappointed!

The plate came with 4 chicken tender pieces and two Beignets – since I had never tried beignets before the waiter gave me one regular beignet and one seasonal beignet, which was a beignet filled with churro syrup. Omg it was delicious! I loved both beignets because they weren’t too sweet and definitely balanced out my plate for sweet part of the sweet & savory I wanted.

My boyfriend decided to get the Cajun Boudin Chilaquiles – those were amazing as well! The usually just come as a small plate, but our waiter was able to upgrade it to a larger plate for him. These were not your traditional chilaquiles, as you can tell but they looked and tasted incredible!

Nolas colorful walls and open lighting made this restaurant so inviting.

I also love how they removed the glass from the windows to make the second room less secluded and love the plants hanging from the top of the window frames.

Nola, the restaurant was everything I imagined, it made me so excited/eager to go to the real New Orleans and eat their food!

The food was so unique and delicious, the location was in a great trendy area of San Antonio, and the staff was so great and friendly and offering their recommendations. I definitely want to come back here so I can try the other items on my list and next time, I will be sure to bring my own mimosas to enjoy with the amazing food.

I definitely recommend San Antonio visitors and locals to try this place for brunch – trust me, your tastebuds will not be disappointed!

Thank you for reading this post, I can’t wait for y’all to follow the rest of my brunch journey! Remember to follow me on Instagram and I will see you next time!
